The Regional Competitiveness Index (RCI) allows regions to monitor and assess their development over time and compare with other regions

The RCI has always shown a remarkable gap between capital/metropolitan regions and the rest of the country.
The question is: are these gaps between the capital and the rest of the country increasing or can we find an indication of catching-up?

The Regional Competitiveness Index (RCI) has been measuring the major factors of competitiveness over the past ten years for all the NUTS-2 level regions across the European Union. The Index measures with more than 70 comparable indicators the ability of a region to offer an attractive and sustainable environment for firms and residents to live and work.

Cohesion policy is the EU’s main investment policy, providing funding equivalent to 8.5% of government capital investment in the EU, a figure which rises to 41% for the EU 13 and to over 50% for a number of countries.

This figure compares the allocations of Cohesion Policy per Member State to public investment (Gross fixed capital formation by general government).
The source for the allocations is the cohesion open data platform and for public investment it is Eurostat and ECFIN AMECO.
