Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI)
The Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI) aims to ensure a strong and effective European integrated border management at the Union’s external borders, ensuring a high level of internal security within the Union while safeguarding the free movement of persons within it.
The BMVI is part of the Integrated Border Management Fund (IBMF), together with the Custom Control Equipment Instrument (CCEI). The IBMF is set up for the period 2021-2027 with a total EU allocation of EUR 7.37 billion. The initial allocation reserved to BMVI corresponds to EUR 6.38 billion. The Member States programmes account for a large share of these resources, as a result of their initial allocations and top-ups from the Thematic Facility, which is a flexibility instrument under the Home Affairs Funds.
