European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)
The EU’s rural development policy helps the rural areas of the EU to meet the wide range of challenges and opportunities that face them in terms of economic, environmental and social development. Known as the “second pillar” of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), it has been improved for the period 2014-2020 through the process of wider CAP reform. The EAFRD EU allocations for years 2021 and 2022 are included in the rural development programmes 2014-2020, which were prolonged until 2022 under the transitional rules. (The 2014-2020 EAFRD programmes also received allocation under European Union Recovery Instrument (EURI).)
